However, in absolute or relative terms, Sage, based on the information we have is spending half on R&D what Interact did ten years ago.

As for MSCRM 1.0 I agree, it was a very expensive version of ACT! in its time. With the R&D that has been poured into it, it is now, according to Forrester and Gartner, one of the better ones.Leon Tribehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05713816319075495059noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5719332149137711434.post-74240142428110058512011-04-26T17:48:48.008+10:002011-04-26T17:48:48.008+10:00Whilst I don't disagree with parts of your ana...Whilst I don't disagree with parts of your analysis, I'd make two points of order to consider in context:

1. Microsoft is a much larger organisation with many more billions of dollars to invest.

2. Microsoft Dynamics CRM v1 was not a great product.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5719332149137711434.post-62297770941834699492011-04-26T15:02:10.764+10:002011-04-26T15:02:10.764+10:00Thanks for the reference Leon. Dynamics focused partners, the original blog post is available on PartnerCompete.com here: http://www.partnercompete.com/TPC/6665

Really interesting to see that Google Trends, but not particularly surprising. The thing I remember about the beginning of that time period was that Sage's shares and market cap were sky high. I suspect part of that was due to the fact that Sage had sold the financial analyst community that it had a $1+ billion opportunity to sell its CRM products, specifically SalesLogix, into its base of several million accounting customers. It failed entirely to deliver on that opportunity in part because it has struggled mightily to seamlessly integrate SalesLogix with its accounting/ERP lines. This speaks to the declining R&D you mention.

Great stuff.
Thanks,
Jason
http://www.partnercompete.comUnknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02573413694949345457noreply@blogger.com
